About So Energy
So Energy is a 100% renewable energy supplier for UK households and is backed by Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) Certificates. The company first entered the market at the end of 2015. In 2018 they were awarded the Energy Provider of the Year by Moneyfacts and named Citizens Advice’s number one supplier. In 2021 they were purchased by ESB Energy, taking So Energy’s customer base up to around 310,000.
As well as renewable energy, So Energy offer online account management and paperless billing to further minimise the carbon footprint of their customers. The company also gives customers the opportunity to vote on where their electricity comes from each year: wind; solar; hydro; or biomass.
So Energy offers a number of fixed-rate tariffs and one standard-variable tariff. The company holds a Low Price Commitment which aims to guarantee that their fixed tariff price per KWh is within the cheapest 10% of the market. Tariffs are only available as direct debit and are not available as Pay As You Go.

Monthly and yearly home tariff costs are calculated at 20.76p/kWh for electricity and 4.17p/kWh for gas. These figures were taken from a London postcode and are correct as of March 2022, though may change as a result of the current energy crisis.
As of April 2022, the cost of electricity and gas in homes has increased by 54% due to new unit rates. Ofgem reviews price caps every six months, meaning April’s cap will be reviewed in October 2022. However, it is currently estimated that the price cap may increase again by 47%.
