Npower Hometeam 50 Cashback Boiler Cover Review

A new boiler insurance cover product has been launched by Npower called hometeam 50 that gives you 50% of your premiums refunded if you don’t make a claim within a year.

Npower only provides services to business customers and sold its domestic customer base to E.ON. Therefore, this product is no longer available.

This new scheme by the energy companies is much like a no-claims discount. If you buy the Npower Hometeam 50 boiler cover product and don’t make a claim within the year, they will refund 50% of your premiums in the form of a cashback payment.

What is Hometeam 50?

The Hometeam 50 boiler cover plan competes directly with the British Gas HomeCare 200 product. These policies are much the same in terms of the cover they offer, and the pricing is very similar. However, the Npower policy provides a 50% refund if you don’t claim under the policy during the year.

Hometeam 50 versus HomeCare 200

So what are the differences between the Npower and British Gas products? They are both designed to cover your boiler and central heating system if it breaks down for whatever reason, and both have the following features:

  • Unlimited calls outs and repairs during the year.
  • UK 24-hour emergency hotline number.
  • Annual boiler service and safety check.
  • All repairs guaranteed for 12 months.

The basic price for the Npower product is £15 per month, whereas British Gas is £17 per month. Both organisations offer a “flexi” option where you pay a reduced monthly price but pay the first £50 of any repair; rather like an excess for other insurance you can buy. If you choose the flexi product, both prices reduce to £10.50 per month.

Under the main plan, there are no costs for any repairs undertaken on your boiler and central heating system. You also get unlimited call-outs and repairs at any time during your cover period. Both Npower and British Gas offer this unlimited call-out and repair offer. The only charges apply if you are on the flexi plan, which is a fixed £50 per completed repair.

The Hometeam 50 cashback offer

This part is where the main differences lie between the two products. If you don’t make a call-out or repair claim in the 12 months, Npower will refund 50% of your annual subscription. You must be an existing Npower customer for both electricity and gas to be eligible for the claim. You can take out the Hometeam 50 product if you do not take both fuels from Npower, but you won’t earn the no-claims discount.

You get your cashback at the end of your 12 months, provided you are not in arrears on any account you hold with Npower.

How to apply for the npower hometeam 50

Whether you are a current Npower customer or not, you can apply and get instant cover for your boiler and central heating system with the Hometeam 50 insurance plan by signing up online via the Npower website. All you need to provide are your home details, and your cover will begin immediately.
