British Gas Homecare 100 Insurance Cover for Boilers

A review of the entry level boiler insurance cover policy that is offered by British Gas called Homecare 100 or Homecare flexi 100 if you can pay a £50 excess on each completed repair undertaken.

If you want to protect your boiler and have cover in the event that it breaks down for whatever reason then the British Gas Homecare 100 plan could be for you. This is the entry level product from the range of British Gas homecare plans and is designed to just protect your boiler including the controls. So if it packs up during the winter and won’t start then you can call on an engineer to come out and fix it.

The homecare 100 and homecare flexi 100 plans have the following benefits when you choose this product from British Gas :

• No limit to the number of call outs made within your contract period
• The plan includes an annual service of your boiler
• Get access to over 7,000 gas safe British Gas engineers (previously under the CORGI registered scheme)
• All parts and labour are covered under the plan unless you choose homecare flexi 100

Homecare 100 or Homecare Flexi 100?

The main cover plan is from £13 per month (higher charges may apply if you live within the M25 in London) and all parts and labour costs are included. But you can reduce this cost to £10.50 per month if you elect to pay the first £50 of each completed repair that may be made. For this plan we don’t recommend the £2.50 saving per month as it’s probably not worth it for the savings where you can get 100% cover against any costs with the main plan.

Who can apply for this plan ?

It doesn’t matter whether you are currently a British Gas customer for electricity and gas supplies as anyone can take out this plan so long as your current boiler system is in working order. There is also no age limit on the boiler you have so if it’s brand new or 15 years old you can get cover under this policy.

Anything else ?

You are covered for accidental damage to your boiler and controls if it affects its functioning ability. If your boiler can not be repaired then British Gas will replace it (under certain conditions, ie: if it’s under 7 years old if it was not installed by British Gas and under 10 years old if it was). If you home has become uninhabitable because of fire or explosion of the boiler then the policy also provides for three nights accommodation up to £150 per night.

There are some exclusions to this policy which you should read up about on the website but in general repairs that cost over £1,000 to get the boiler back in working order are generally excluded.

This is domestic owner occupied homes only and there are separate arrangements for landlords who let their properties under a scheme called property care and property care plus. The homecare 100 plan also provides additional discounts on the price of installing a new boiler.
